Mistral joins Firefox Smart Window

Mozilla and Mistral announce a partnership for Smart Window, Firefox’s browsing assistant, currently in beta.

AI alongside the pages you open

Mozilla and Mistral announced their partnership on September 16. Firefox’s Smart Window browsing assistant, in beta, uses Mistral models and can draw on browser tabs for context.

What the browser changes

An assistant outside the browser often requires copying excerpts and explaining where they came from. Bringing the interfaces closer could make that handover easier. The aim is straightforward: ask a question while reading information, without rebuilding the situation in another window.

Comparing offers is a useful example. Prices, conditions and exceptions may be spread across several pages. An assistant that can use this context could help assemble them into a readable answer. This is a possible use case, not a result from testing the product.

Keep the original pages within reach

A summary is a selection. An important condition hidden in a note or exception can change the conclusion. Links to the original passages help readers find the relevant detail quickly without repeating the whole search.

Beta status also indicates a product still evolving. Before using sensitive pages, it is worth checking context-sharing settings and the terms governing data processing.
